Women prepare, precaution for EDM concerts

Listen to the audio story to hear safety tips from female ravers, expert and novice.

I recently attended the first EDM concert I've been to in a while, featuring ODESZA, one of my favorite bands since high school. Although this wasn't my first rodeo, I didn't quite prepare as much as I should have, because I ended up having to park a mile from the venue and it started storming as soon as I got out of the car. By the time I found a VBike and bicycled through the pouring rain to get there, my hair and makeup were ruined.

I was with my boyfriend, who jogged while I rode the bike because there was only one. The concert was at the Toyota Music Factory, a half indoor-outdoor venue in Irving, on October 6th. We were about two hours late, but because of the storm the show was delayed and ODESZA didn't start until after we got there.

While everyone was waiting, I decided to ask a few female attendees about how they prepare and what safety precautions they have to take when attending a concert or festival. I've been to quite a few over the years, and I always see women especially dressed up in rave-style outfits, makeup and hair that I know must take hours. I talked to a variety of women, all dressed up, but all at different rave experience levels. They gave a lot of good safety tips that are especially helpful for those who haven't been to a rave before but would like to, and even regular ravers can use a refresher every once in a while.

I talked to Sarah Galaway, who has been to over 20 EDM shows, and was decked out in full rave makeup and clothes. She showed me a closeup of her makeup.
